From a lightning’s rupture, creation erupts. For me, lightning embodies a transformative duality—both destructive and generative. This duality mirrors the journey of Cai Wenji (蔡⽂姬), whose lifewas shattered by loss yet reborn through art.In this 45-minute solo performance, I reinterpret her legacy by channeling that raw energy into apersonal act of artistic rebirth. This work not only tells Wenji’s story but also becomes a vessel formy own experiences, highlighting our shared struggles, cultural memory, and the art oftransformation.Reimagining Eighteen Songs of a Nomad Flute (胡笳⼗⼋拍) through voice, motion-triggeredelectronics, and calligraphy-inspired choreography, this piece contains 18 distinct “ruptures” —each corresponding to one stanza of the original poem. In context of lightning, "rupture" refers tothe sudden disruptions in the air caused by intense electrical discharges, which produceshockwaves heard as thunder. “Blitz/Lightning” signifies moments of rupture that sparks creativetransformation.
