Die Feldmaus Frederick lebt mit ihrer Familie in einer alten Steinmauer. Alle sammeln Vorräte für den nahenden Winter, nur Frederick sitzt scheinbar untätig herum. Er sammelt Wörter, Klänge und Farben. Als im Winter die Vorräte langsam zur Neige gehen, wird es in der Steinmauer ungemütlich und kalt. Doch dann zaubert Frederick das Licht des Sommers herbei.
