The 2024 European elections will take place in a super election year: elections will be held in almost 80 countries worldwide. There is great interest in the EU elections and a high voter turnout is expected.

The elections are also seen as crucial in the current global political situation, including with regard to the war against Ukraine, the possible escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran, and how to deal with the climate crisis. It is predicted that Eurosceptic and right-wing populist parties will be able to gain voter shares.

How did the EU elections go? What influence will the election result have on Europe's future role and self-image? What does it mean for democracy in Europe? To what extent can the European elections be seen as a mood gauge for the global super election year?

Panel discussion with:

Bruno Kaufmann, Global Democracy Correspondent swissinfo.ch

Natascha Wunsch, Full Professor of European Studies at the University of Fribourg and Director of the Center for European Studies
And other participants.

Moderation: Sarah Bütikofer, political scientist and editor of DeFacto

The event is organized in collaboration with the Swiss Democracy Foundation.
