Die Ärztin Nora Kaminski sorgt sich um ihren Sohn Kai, der mit seiner Verlobten zu Besuch ist. Ein Familienausflug wird durch einen Notfall gestört: Ein Imbissbesitzer leidet unter Rückenschmerzen, die sich als ernster herausstellen. Als sein Lokal brennt, vermutet er Brandstiftung, wird aber selbst zum Hauptverdächtigen. Während sich sein Zustand verschlechtert, kümmert sich Nora auch um ihre eigene Familie.
