Erzählt Francis Ford Coppola die Geschichte zweier Brüder, tut er das in einem kontrastreichen Schwarz-Weiss. Sowohl auf der Ebene des Filmbildes als auch auf jener der Story. Während der grosse Bruder radikal nach seinen eigenen Werten lebt, eifert der kleine ihm nach. Authentizität trifft auf Imitation. Und auch Coppola selbst kombiniert eine eigenständige kinematographische Poesie mit den Klischees harter Film-noir-Sprüche. Eine seltsam faszinierende Mischung.
