The kaval is known to be challenging to (begin to) play. First, we must make a sound – then make this sound strong – to provide the basis of playing. Then we must learn to articulate the notes, which defines the Bulgarian sound.
Along with some presentation of the instrument, we will work together to understand the production of sound, learn good position (mouth/body/instrument), and cover as many of the basic stages as possible, to develop a good basis from where to start playing authentically.
