Waiting with Sophie

Mo. 1. April - Su. 30. June 2024

Bahnhof Trogen, Trogen

Redesign of the Trogen waiting room

The former counter front in the waiting room of the historic station building was redesigned by Gabriela Falkner and Christine Gsell. "Waiting with Sophie" offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in Sophie's Trogen around 1900: thanks to photos from her mother Sophie Taeuber-Krüsi's photo albums. Sophie Taeuber lived in Trogen between 1895 and 1908. In July 1903, the electric tram St.Gallen–Speicher–Trogen was ceremoniously opened. From now on, it was no longer the stagecoach but the railway that connected the village, which was characterised by the St. Gallen machine embroidery, the weaving mill, agriculture, the Trogen Cantonal School with its boarding houses and the Zellweger children's sanatorium. The street near the train station was given the name "Bahnhofstrasse". Electricity on one side, nature on the other side of the village, on the "Boulevard du Sud", where the Taeuber family lived: Sophie Taeuber grew up in this field of tension between speed and slowness, city and country. Funding: Stiftung SK Trogen 1821 Illustration: Christine Gsell Concept and idea: Gabriela Falkner Structure: Christian Hörler
