Muna is about to graduate from high school when she meets Magnus, a French teacher and photographer. She spends a night with him. When the Berlin Wall came down it disappeared. Seven years later the two meet again and become a couple. Muna believes she has found her home in her relationship with Magnus. But cracks appear in the relationship on their first trip together. Magnus remains distant, is often harsh, and sometimes loving. As the years go by, coldness, unpredictability and violence increase. Muna blames herself. Terézia Mora very subtly unfolds this fatal thought pattern. But her multi-voiced, 20-year developmental novel is anything but a clinical experiment. Muna is an intelligent, life-hungry, humorous woman who nurtures her friendships and loves life. If only it weren't for this shadow that she herself keeps conjuring up.

Terézia Mora (*1971, Sopron, Hungary) received the German Book Prize in 2013 for her novel The Ungeheuer. She was awarded the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize for her literary debut Strange Matter and the Georg Büchner Prize for her complete work in 2018.
