For the 38th time, Yves Corboz once again makes us discover a rare work in concert and to which he will bring new life in the company of the singers and instrumentalists of his Capella Concertata, as usual while respecting the requirements of a musically and historically informed interpretation . It is almost a miracle that Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Oratorio of the St. Matthew Passion can still be performed, as the work was lost in the turmoil of the Second World War and only reappeared in 1999 during the spectacular rediscovery of the archives of the scores of the “Sing-Akademie” (of Berlin) in the Ukrainian capital kyiv. This unexpected reappearance of the musical material of the 21 passions of the most famous, in his time, of Bach's musical sons has not failed to delight the world of music and can only arouse the interest of the public. Thus, music lovers from Friborg and elsewhere will once again be able to discover this year a marvelous work from a repertoire that we thought had disappeared forever. In a world that is drifting, where war is omnipresent and social tensions are everywhere perceptible, also faced with the uncertainty and doubt of knowing whether we consume real news or fake news, it is all the more important to find in the story of Christ's sufferings and salvation an ultimately optimistic narrative anchor.
